Stitches: A Haunted House and Other Ghost Stories

Populated by intangible, fragile and unsettling presences, the Villa Bernasconi hosts the exhibition Stitches: A Haunted House and Other Ghost Stories. In continuation of the curatorial project Stitches, initiated in 2020 around contemporary textile practices, the exhibition explores the spectral potential of textiles and haunting.

By veiling the invisible and giving it a shape, fabric builds a bridge between worlds, reviving hidden stories and forgotten memories. At the threshold of perception, the exhibition investigates what the figure of the ghost—and the spaces it inhabits—reveals within contemporary artistic practices. Bearing witness to obscured legacies, collective fears, and intimate recollections, the artworks form what cannot, or should not, be seen. With tenderness, mischief, and a sense of dread, they expose the hauntings embedded in domestic objects, living spaces, ordinary gestures and social structures.

In dialogue with the architecture of the Villa Bernasconi, the house itself becomes a haunted subject, allowing voices and absent figures to surface—these “others” with whom we coexist, who follow and accompany us.
