How do you describe your own art practice?
The work ranges from photography, to performances, video and music. In the process of creating my work I use intuition and emotions as a guide. Within the work collaboration is an important factor. At the moment I’m working on a project called ‘The Pole Dance Project’. In this project I’m working with a group of women who pole dance.
Pole dancing can be done anywhere! In the metro, on traffic signs, or in trees.
The works are playful, intuitive, symbolic, erotic, ritualistic, intimate, theatrical and poetic!
Which question or theme is central in your work?
The works provokes new behaviours, calls for intimacy, and shows how fantasy can enter reality. I examine the fluidity of humans and I explore themes such as identity, intimacy and transformation.
What was your first experience with art?
When I was younger I used to watch Sunday morning television with my parents. We watched ‘Villa Achterwerk’, a channel on which Dutch children’s programs such as ‘Purno de Purno’ and ‘Theo and Thea’ were broadcasted. These programs were kind of provocative, absurd, and slightly sexual in nature. What I like about this, is that this was as fun to watch for me as it was for my parents.
What is your greatest source of inspiration?
Being fearless!
What do you need in order to create your work?
Feeling excited!
What work artist has most recently surprised you?
I was just out on my balcony, and a flower had opened up and blossomed.
The flower’s petals were so beautiful and bright pink! It’s Mother Nature that always surprises me with what she creates.
