The underlying framework of their practice is related to the potential of the medium of photography – its experimental character, heterogeneous nature and flexibility. Using language to analyse images and to even ‘talk’ about them, might feel paradoxical.

Is an image not the medium of choice to say something meaningful about images? This is what the artists in this show endeavour. Their experiments within the medium itself could be considered as ‘meta-images’ – images referring to the mechanisms of perception and their didactic influence upon our Western Society. Although taking, sharing, and viewing photographs has become a second nature for most of us, our regular engagement with images does not necessarily make us visually literate.

Our ways of seeing and reading things are intrinsically linked to a scope of parameters ranging from physiological, cultural and technical aspects – all decisive players within the act of perception, which we are most of the time not aware of.

The artworks exist independently. Their place in the gallery makes various constellations and relations visible. Together they create an atlas of different perspectives on photography and visual culture, with overlapping thoughts and visions.
