The aim of this book is to illustrate how artists engage with archival reuse and their relationship with archives and archival institutions. In doing so, it first seeks to show the archival community—and others—that archive reuse is a form of co-creation. Secondly, it aims to inspire readers to actively work with archives; the essays in this publication offer numerous examples and paths to explore. Lastly, the book targets a broader audience interested in both art and archives, with the goal of offering insight into the dynamics between the ‘archive’ and the user.

Open Archief – Artistic Reuse of Archives contains contributions by Philipp Gufler, belit sağ, susan pui san lok, Paula Kommoss, Gill Baldwin, Jessica de Abreu, Pablo Núñez Palma, Michiel Huijben, Pieter Paul Pothoven, Elki Boerdam, Shock Forest Group, Femke Dekker, Alice Wong and Simo Tse.

Initiated by the Nieuwe Instituut, Sound & Vision, and the International Institute of Social History. In collaboration with Stichting Archiefpublicaties.
