Hold That Thought is a walk through the work of visual artist Johannes Langkamp. This book is a reflection of an archive with (digital) works of art, experiments, (kinetic) models and their documentation. In it moving images are brought to a standstill, only to be put in motion again by its reader.

Johannes Langkamp’s book Hold That Thought is a collaborative investigation into (working) frameworks and resources for artistic processes within the space of the book medium. Can you preserve movement in a book? Can temporal intervention survive through documentation or even take on a life of its own within the book? Artist Johannes Langkamp, designer Art Collart and publisher/editor Rianne Zijderveld delve into Johannes Langkamp’s archive in search of answers to these questions.

Johannes Langkamp’s (Rotterdam, NL) work arises from wonder, curiosity, and experimentation. Consumed by the question ‘What happens if…’ he searches for the unexpected. Through an ever-expanding archive of his work — videos, photographic techniques, kinetic models, and spatial installations —Langkamp studies the interplay between process and result. These outcomes (finds or failures) capture moments from our everyday life, simulate movements, or facilitate ways to interrupt our viewing habits. Exposing material that broadens our view of reality itself.

Unformed Informed (Publishing) is a publishing studio within the arts, based in Rotterdam (NL). The outcome is the result of a close collaboration with artists. The framework of each project is determined by the collaborations within which they arise. These frameworks not only determine the document itself, but also the conditions under which they are being published. Unformed Informed (Publishing) is an initiative of curator and editor Rianne Zijderveld.
