How do you describe your own art practice?
I like to adapt the medium to the subject, but it’s true that I have until now mostly worked the photographic process. I try to find and even sometimes to meet new practices in order to create what I want to share. The work is often fed on accidents which I am particularly fond of because it allows a rebel and unexpected reading of things.
What was your first experience with art?
My grandmother lived in a medieval town named Conflans. Her neighbour was a painter. His studio was open on the street. Each year my father went to visit him as soon as we arrived to the village and I would go with him. I went to see him until his death.
What is your greatest source of inspiration?
My memories.
What do you need in order to create your work?
I need things to be easy, if I do not do it naturally it means that I’m not on the right way. If the links are made clearly, then it’s the beginning of something.
What are you working on at the moment?
I paint landscapes with oil paints, inspired by cheese labels.
What work or artist has most recently surprised you?
A performance by Céline Gillain at the VUB during the Belgian Performance festival on the theme: « How to document a performance ». I can say that this artist brought me back with performance.
